2 Positive Work Readiness Skills
1) I was very dedicated. I came as many days as I could, of course I had to leave early to go to my Monday classes at MCOE or for work on Fridays, but other than that I went everyday from 9-4 or sometimes earlier. I followed the rules very well too, since I'm working with kids, it's important to give them side hugs only because it can give people the wrong idea. At times it would get hard to cause the kids would be running towards you at full speed with a full on frontal hug, but I would just give them a one-armed hug. I learned that working with kids can be rewarding, but tricky at the same time too.
2) I was very professional. The dress code is pretty simple, the interns have to wear this bright neon orange shirt every time we show up. We can wear shorts, but of course, they can't be too short. Open toed-shoes aren't allowed because there's a lot of running and walking involved, so I just wear athletic shoes. I would come to my intern clean everyday with little to no makeup, but a lot of sunscreen and my hair tied up and out of my face. I would always show up early, between 15-30 minutes early. It's nice to show up early cause there are kids who get dropped off early so I can just play with them like I normally would. There's also a sign-in sheet that all interns are required to fill out so I fill that out right when I get in and fill out my own as well, then I do the same thing after the end of my day. Lastly, if there's any day I can't show up or if I have to leave early, I always let my supervisor know. I learned that being professional for a job like this is very key because it would set a good examples for kids who may look up to me and my supervisor can trust me more since I'm keeping her up-to-date.
1 Area of Growth
1) So far I've been pretty good with all of my readiness skills, I haven't noticed any that I needed to work on.
I also found out that i am very dedicated by being on time and following the rules also!
ReplyDeleteNice work with the side hugs. I have found that with my experience interning at the Y that it can be tricky and rewarding working with kids as well.
